Dear Eleanor,

When we think of Hadassah, most often we think of ways to engage the members of our local chapter, Sharone, through entertaining events and engaging outreach to our constituency. And that is, of course, an important task. But we -- all the members of Sharone Hadassah -- should each make a promise to ourselves to learn exactly why we care so much about this amazing world-wide health care and human services organization. Here's a good way to start: Hadassah has spearheaded an amazing series of humanitarian projects around the world. - Among these selfless demonstrations of caring outreach are public health education and provision of health care services without cost to needy populations.
- Hadassah has also participated in rescue operations by Israelis around the world since 1960. Hadassah cares!
- But Hadassah does more than care, it takes action!
Hadassah's amazing medical breakthroughs make headlines the world over.
- Hadassah discovers the gene responsible for liver disease.
- Hadassah makes strides against Parkinson's Disease
- Hadassah researchers discover the gene that compromises the respiratory system.
- Hadassah harvests organs to expedite saving lives.
Stay up to date on all of Hadassah's miraculous good deeds. Click here.

Iliinsky is the illustrator of The Torah: A Women's Commentary (URJ Press & the Women of Reform Judaism), National Jewish Book Award Winner.
Convinced of the power of sacred texts to deepen our lives, she illuminates the meaning of verses with design and color to bring us close to Torah. At this lunch and learn program, Rabbi Me'irah will bring a selection of her artwork, showing how she interprets verses from Torah to give deeper meaning to everyday experience, and help people to "step into the Jewish paradigm."

Sending JNF Water Certificates in Memory of Sandy Hook

Sending JNF Water Certificates is a great way to help JNF's critical water resource projects for the people and land of Israel.
The new trees that were planted in memory of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre need water to flourish. We want to help!
For $18 you can buy a Water Certificate to support a joint project of JNF and Hadassah to improve the water situation in Israel.
Join us now! We have a deadline of June 3, 2013. Let's see how much we can accomplish by then.

Mayim = Chayim

Rene Prupes
You might be surprised to discover that living in the Silicon Valley and the surrounding area provides us with a unique link to Israel and the work Hadassah does in conjunction with Jewish National Fund (JNF)! We live in a summer-dry climate, challenged by sustained periods of drought and scarce water resources, just like that of Israel's where lack of water is a daily hardship.
Many of us have planted trees in Israel over the years, in honor of special occasions and to celebrate the lives of our loved ones. These reforestation efforts have wrought miracles in a very short time by greening the country, preventing further erosion and minimizing runoff of the limited storm water.
However, the water infrastructure to nurture the trees, and the country's population, is woefully inadequate. Hadassah and the JNF work diligently to sustain Israel's water supply.
The Hebrew word for water is "mayim", and there is a saying in our tradition that "mayim equals chayim", the Hebrew word for life.
Look below in our "Cards and Tributes" section to see those who have already invested in Israel's water resources by purchasing Hadassah water certificates. Most were in memory of those whose lives were cut short by the Sandy Hook massacre. Their contributions fulfill the mitzvah (commandment) of comforting mourners, those who are grieving from an unimaginable loss.
At the same time, their generosity helps give life by supporting critical water resource development projects for the people and land of Israel.
